Hestia calls on public to raise awareness of domestic abuse with NO MORE Week fun run

This year we are calling on the general public to get behind the international NO MORE Week by taking part in a 5 or 10km virtual fun run, with the aim of spreading awareness of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

NO MORE Week is set to take place from Sunday 7 March to Saturday 13 March, coinciding with International Women’s Day. This is particularly pertinent, as domestic abuse disproportionately continues to affect one in four women in the UK in their lifetime.

We encourage those running 5km to try and raise a minimum of £50, and those running a 10km to try and raise £100. You can complete your run at any time or pace suitable for you between 7 and 13 March.

All funds raised will go towards supporting women and children who are affected by domestic abuse.

Hestia is one of the largest providers of domestic abuse support in London and the south east, working to help women and children recover from their experience. Our staff provide support to families to give them the best chance to rebuild their lives after domestic abuse.

During Covid-19, home has not been a safe place for everyone. Our report ‘Domestic Abuse in Lockdown’ shows an almost 50 per cent increase in users of our Bright Sky support app and a near 40 per cent jump in the number of people trying to access our domestic abuse services.

During the pandemic, UK SAYS NO MORE also set up Safe Spaces, which are available in pharmacies across the UK for anyone who may be experiencing domestic abuse and needs somewhere to go to contact a specialist support service, family member or friend.

Safe Spaces provide victims with a lifeline through a growing community response, as more stores and independent pharmacies offer up their consultation rooms and get onboard with the scheme.

During NO MORE WEEK, you can be part of a wider movement to end domestic abuse and sexual violence by pledging your time and stepping into your sportswear for our virtual fun run fundraiser.
