On 19 June, we welcomed Ellie Reeves MP to one of our mental health accommodation services in Lewisham, for a garden party celebrating the achievements of service users and the success of our community partnership.

During the visit, Ms Reeves officially opened our new therapeutic garden space and met with residents, team members and partners to learn more about the impact of the service.

Other guests included representatives from Lewisham Council, Hestia’s Trustees Dame Moira Gibb DBE and Roger Rawlinson, and Hestia’s CEO Patrick Ryan.

The service provides 24-hour supported housing for adults with complex mental health needs and plays a vital role within Lewisham’s stepped care model. It offers a safe and stable environment where people can engage with treatment, rebuild confidence, develop daily living skills and prepare for independent living.

Guests heard about Hestia’s recovery-focused approach, which helps reduce reliance on hospital admissions while supporting residents to achieve stability, dignity and long-term independence.

The visit also highlighted the importance of partnership working in creating environments that promote wellbeing and support recovery. Hestia would like to thank Froglife for its contribution to the new ponds and for it's co-creation of such welcoming outdoor spaces.

One of the highlights of the day was hearing from Michael, a resident at the service, who spoke about his experience of living at the service.

Michael said: "I have gained more confidence and independence... Living here has been a very positive experience for me."

Ellie Reeves MP also commented on her visit:

"I was honoured to open the new therapeutic garden at Hestia’s supported accommodation in Sydenham earlier this month. 

Spaces like these form part of the incredible holistic ethos taken by the Hestia team, focusing on helping individuals build vital skills and resilience on their journey to recovery.
