The Home Affairs Select Committee (HASC) has released its report on Human trafficking, including evidence from Hestia and several of the survivors we support.

Earlier in the year, Hestia submitted written evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee’s inquiry on human trafficking, based around our previous research including pregnancy and children, housing, and legal aid.

During the Summer, Hestia staff also supported a group of survivors to give oral evidence to the Committee, something one of them described as ‘an honour’.

One of our survivors spoke of the support they received:

“I’m raising my head high because of Hestia, I can talk and hold my emotions because of Hestia.”

The Committee’s recommendations are as follows:

  • The Government must speed up efforts to deliver a new and overhauled Modern Slavery Strategy and resume publication of its annual reports on human trafficking.
  • The Government should provide comprehensive data to support its claims of abuse of the NRM.
  • A renewed focus should be placed on building partnerships with the financial services industry and regulators to better identify the proceeds from trafficking crimes.
