Hestia's Criminal Justice Services

Hestia provides support for offenders and ex-offenders across London through our criminal justice services.

For more than 50 years, Hestia's criminal justice services have focussed on recovery and rehabilitation, providing accommodation and support to those whose who need it. Our teams provide support for offenders in Bromley, Lambeth, Richmond and Wandsworth.

In 2021, Hestia supported more than 100 people across our criminal justice services

Our criminal justice services recognise the impact of trauma on those who commit crimes. Regardless of the cause of this distress, we adopt the same trauma-informed approach in our offender services as we do across our organisation.

Hestia’s view is that in order to break the cycle of offending, offenders must be supported, rather than punished. We view rehabilitation as form of recovery. We aim to support individuals to establish and maintain their place in the community by making positive choices to prevent re-offending

Each service has a specialist staff team who will work with individuals by offering practical support to enable service users to live independently.

All our criminal justice teams work with service users to develop robust risk management plans. Our multi-agency approach allows us to effectively work alongside key professionals such as police, probation, substance misuse and mental health services, amongst others to help prevent victims and protect the public.

We take a gender-informed approach to our work, recognising that female offenders often have a different journey towards and through the Criminal Justice System to their male counterparts. We utilising Hestia’s extensive experience of working with women with complex needs to respond to their specific needs.

Accommodation Services

Hestia's Approved Premises provide rehabilitation support and supervision for people released on licence from prison. As well as playing an important role in monitoring and managing the risk of residents, our services also provide key workers and a programme of purposeful activities designed to reduce re-offending and help with reintegration back into the community.

Our shared accommodation services in Bromley and Lambeth provide support to individuals who have experiences of the Criminal Justice System. We work with our service users to support them to better manage their mental health, substance misuse or other additional needs, and therefore reducing their risk of future offending.

We also provide Tenancy Sustainment Support to individuals in Bromley. This support is delivered either through one to one support following a referral, or at one of our community clinics.

Beth's story

"When I entered Hestia’s AP, I was so grateful. I felt the support of the staff from day one. They help me stay on the right track, and I know they will be there to listen on the tough days.

After ten years, I finally see myself ready to move on with my life. I have learnt from my mistakes, and I never want to be back 'behind the door'.

Now, I'm a better person, a better mother, a better everything because I used my time the right way."
