Last week, from 8 - 10 May 2019, Hestia hosted an art exhibition at Kilburn Library in Brent, shining a spotlight on the link between mental health, wellbeing and creativity.

The exhibition featured creative pieces including paintings and literature, produced by a group of talented individuals currently being supported by Hestia.

The group have been coming together weekly since February to get all artsy, using the sessions to challenge their creativity, build their confidence and learn new skills.

The ribbon was cut and the exhibition opened by Brent Cllr Neil Nerva, who was joined by Cllr Krupesh Hirani and some of the artists behind the artwork.

Cllr Neil Nerva said:

“I think it’s incredibly important that we have a properly funded range of activities which enable people to avoid having to use statutory services. That’s why it’s so important that organisations like Hestia are funded and provide prevention and support in a way that no one else can.”

The exhibition was proudly displayed the week before Mental Health Awareness Week, 13 – 19 May, a time to raise crucial awareness of mental health issues and work as a collective to eradicate stigma.

As part of Hestia’s Mental Health Awareness Week activities, our mental health service in Brent will host an awareness day in partnership with Ashford Place, providing an opportunity for attendees to come together and focus on mental wellbeing and combating stigma and discrimination.

The day will also feature discussions as well as peer support, singing, delicious food and more. Register to attend here.
