The 2023 Global Slavery Index estimated that on any given day, there are 122,000 people trapped in modern slavery in the UK and 50 million globally. 


What are the signs of modern slavery?

Forced Labour

1. Not being paid reflective of hours/working excessive hours

What to do if you spot the signs:

If you are an individual and you suspect that someone is a victim of modern slavery, do not confront them about it, this could put them in further danger. Instead, speak to the relevant authorities:

  • Contact Unseen modern slavery helpline for advice on 0800121700 or you can use their online app
  • Refer to CrimeStoppers on 0800555111
  • If your concerns involve a potential child, contact the children services within your local authority
  • If you have immediate concerns about someone's safety, call the police on 999

  • Please put your safety and the safety of the victim first at all times and do not confront the potential exploiters
