Volunteering at Hestia

By volunteering with us, you will help to support adults and children in crisis across London. Your enthusiasm can make a big difference to those who are most in need. You’ll be able to:

  • Help adults and children in crisis
  • Meet new people
  • Learn new skills
  • Gain valuable work experience
  • Give back and do something rewarding
  • Have fun

“Volunteering at Hestia is like a big family, we all look after each other," Melissa, Volunteer Gardener.

What you can do

There are many different volunteering roles available. If there is something specific you want to do, we can create a role that suits your skills and abilities. Existing roles include:

  • Teaching art therapy, gardening, yoga, IT or cooking
  • Peer support and facilitating group sessions
  • Befriending and mentoring
  • Head office based roles in various departments
"Knitting is a great activity because it allows people to open up and talk while they knit. Women often don’t get a chance to share how they feel in the midst of so many changes happening around them and [our sessions help] these women to open up and forget for a few minutes about the many problems they are going through,” Joan, Knitting volunteer.

Rewards

As a volunteer for Hestia you qualify for Hestia Rewards. It’s our way of saying thank you for the amazing work you do. Rewards include:

  • Reimbursed travel on all TfL services and £5 per day for lunch
  • An invitation to our volunteering awards and celebration events
  • References for job applications
  • Access to Hestia's Learning and Development programme
  • Interview and CV preparation and support

Volunteer Awards

In June Hestia celebrated our volunteers at our annual Volunteer Awards hosted by our corporate partner at Winkworth Sherwood in their London Bridge offices with views overlooking the Thames.
