Do you want to be a part of creating fun filled memories for children in our Domestic abuse refuges across Hestia?

You can be be involved in supporting a child and their mother to rebuild their relationship after the escaping domestic abuse.

“The scheme helped me to keep my children busy and engaged in lovely activities.”
Sheila*, Wandsworth Domestic Abuse Service

Last year the scheme ran across 28 of our refuges across London, supporting 98 children and 62 mothers. The Summer Play Scheme provided a number of benefits with mothers and children developing their relationships and bond, building new friendships, creating new memories together and building their confidence.

Many of the children that come to the refuges have not been able to socialise and attend activities or go on days out. The summer play scheme enables children to begin a childhood without fear. Volunteers are vitally important to the scheme as without their support, many children and family workers would struggle to accommodate the different age groups of children; resulting in a lack of activities and outings for families in our refuges.

“We went to the beach, I loved the sand and the big water I hadn’t seen this before! “

Harry, 9 years old from Tower Hamlets Domestic Abuse Service

Volunteering for the summer play scheme can be flexible, you can volunteer as little or as much as you would like. By volunteering, you will be giving back to the community, provides an opportunity to meet new people, whilst learning new skills and building your CV. Not to mention you will be having 6 weeks of fun!

I truly believe that if it wasn’t for the play scheme activities, me and my children may have gone back to the perpetrator”

Siara, a mother from Hackney Domestic Abuse Service
