Tammy's story

Hello, my name is Tammy, and I'm a Housing Management Officer across Hestia's Domestic Abuse Services. I've been with Hestia for two and a half years now, starting out as a refuge worker.

I now support women with their financial needs. The best part of the job by far is helping clients who have suffered from financial abuse; playing a role in their journey towards overcoming this, and advocating on their behalf to external agencies.

A lot of women who come into our refuges have been with partners who have used coercive control to rule their lives, and supporting the women to handle their own finances for the first time is just wonderful. I think Hestia is a fantastic organization to work for - you learn so much, there's so many opportunities for training and progression, you grow so much as a person, and you work with great people!

“What excites me about joining Hestia is the organisation’s genuine commitment towards creating a more equitable, diverse and inclusive organisation. I appreciate their dedication towards wanting to build an inclusive culture, courage to challenge themselves and admit more needs to be done and willingness to work in collaboration with staff, volunteers, and service users to identify, understand and address inequities. So, their people feel respected and more able to bring their authentic and full selves to work, free of discrimination and barriers”.
