Benjamin's story

Hello, I’m Benjamin, and I’m a Homelessness Prevention and Advice Officer. I’ve been working at Hestia for 2 months now, and already I have become a part of a very enthusiastic and supporting family.

The service provides housing advice and support to homeless adults and people who are at-risk of becoming homeless, who do not meet the priority need threshold for local authority housing.

I have always had the passion to help people and working at Hestia gives me the opportunity to bring comfort and relief to the people who use our service – my managers have also been extremely supportive.

My main responsibilities include supporting service users to sustain or secure accommodation through the creation and execution of Personal Housing Plans, meeting performance targets and service standards, and managing my own caseload effectively and in line with service standards and Hestia Values.

I will delightfully recommend Hestia to others, because the benefits of working at Hestia are unparalleled. My passion and dream to help those in crisis - helping the vulnerable - is now a reality because of Hestia. Thanks Hestia, for the opportunity to serve our service users.

The Hestia Approach

The Hestia Approach represents our commitment to making the most effective interventions possible in the lives of those who use our services.

Our approach is based on a single principle: in order to add real value to people’s lives it is essential that we work with them as equals. Our expertise and experience of working with people on their recovery journeys is valuable, and we believe this gives us a great deal to contribute, but we never impose our ideas.

“What excites me about joining Hestia is the organisation’s genuine commitment towards creating a more equitable, diverse and inclusive organisation. I appreciate their dedication towards wanting to build an inclusive culture, courage to challenge themselves and admit more needs to be done and willingness to work in collaboration with staff, volunteers, and service users to identify, understand and address inequities. So, their people feel respected and more able to bring their authentic and full selves to work, free of discrimination and barriers”.
