Hestia's Age Activity Centre

Hestia's Age Activity Centre (AAC) is a drop-in centre for older people (60+) living in Wandsworth.

The AAC runs fun, social activities and day trips to promote a sense of community and reduce social isolation. The AAC also works to help older people to stay independent for longer, and to keep healthy and active.

Last year, Hestia supported almost 500 older people across London.

Activities at the centre include art classes, choir, salsa lessons, tai chi and IT classes. A host of other workshops and volunteering opportunities are also offered, as well as community events like Christmas lunches.

The AAC also provides advice and information, befriending and mentoring and independent living support alongside dementia care services for those who may need it.

The AAC is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Lyn's* story: "I don't categorise myself as an ‘older person’ - I still feel 18 at heart!"

"As I got older, I found I wasn’t doing much with myself, just the odd bit of gardening here and there. I started having cardiac problems because of the Lupus. I knew I need to start getting out and being active.

One day, I spotted a leaflet for Hestia’s Age Activity Centre (AAC) in my local pharmacy. They were doing yoga and Tai Chi – all the good stuff I needed to be involved in!

It really has added something special to my life. I’ve met interesting people and made close friends; people I feel I’ve known my whole life."
