Community chooses Hestia to receive donation for new self-help centre 

Friday 20^th July: Hestia's Hospital Discharge team in Hounslow opens their new self-help centre to support people in Hounslow to recover from mental health trauma. The charity, which supported almost 2,500 Londoners through mental health services last year, has co-produced the service to support the needs and aspirations for service users in Hounslow who are living in Hestia’s mental health and complex needs accommodation based services.

The centre will host organised activities such as yoga and mindfulness and encourage attendees to share personal experiences to help others with their recovery. Trained staff from Hestia will be on hand to provide any emotional and practical support.

Attending the opening of the service will be Ruth Cadbury MP who said:

“For those experiencing a mental health crisis, access to specialist services is crucial in their recovery. Mental health is often stigmatised leaving individuals embarrassed to come forward and seek support. I am very honoured to open the centre and pleased to see Hestia provide this level of dedicated support to the community in Hounslow.”

Ahead of the launch, Director of Operations, Abigail Ampofo at Hestia said:

“Hestia is extremely proud to open our new self-help centre to support the recovery of our service users in Hounslow. The centre will be a fun and relaxed environment for all to attend and enjoy refreshments, read a book, relax or enjoy some yoga.  

At Hestia, we ensure the voice of service users are at the heart of everything we do and it was important to listen to what was needed and for the team to co-produce the centre alongside our service users.”

Hounslow residents chose Hestia to receive the donation from the local Asda supermarket. Customers were encouraged to deposit a green coin at the exit of the supermarket.

The Self-Help Centre was officially opened by Martin Cheeseman, Chairman of Hestia’s Board of Trustees on Friday 20^th July. In attendance were Ruth Cadbury MP for Brentford and Isleworth and Cllr Samia Chaudhary alongside local councillors and Hestia staff and service users.
