Domestic abuse and sexual violence can impact anyone, at any point in their life, regardless of their background, age, gender, ethnicity, socio-economic status or sexuality. It can include but is not limited to physical violence, economic and financial abuse, online abuse, psychological and emotional abuse and coercive control. An estimated 1.9 million adults experienced domestic abuse in the last year. Covid-19 and lockdowns appear to have impacted for the worse with Refuge, UK’s largest domestic abuse charity reporting an overall 25% increase in calls between March and November 2020.
