This week, all donations to Hestia are doubled

Until midday 28 June 2022, all donations to Hestia’s domestic abuse service are automatically doubled through the summer Big Give.

Every year, Hestia supports more than 4,000 children and families who have experienced domestic abuse. For many of these children, this summer will be their first away from fear.

When children arrive at our refuges, they do so having left friends, pets, and toys behind. It can be a difficult transition period, and a pivotal point in their recovery.

Through our Summer Play Scheme, we provide children who’ve experienced domestic abuse with an opportunity to recover, but also to make new, happy memories with their mothers and with other children.

A recent Hestia survey found that four in ten children in our refuges have never been to the beach, while a third have never been to a zoo. The Summer Play Scheme provides six weeks of activities and outings, including beach days, zoo visits and museum trips, giving children the chance to reclaim their childhood.

The activities are physically and mentally stimulating, while this summer, for the first time, we are also providing children in our refuges with access to animal therapy as part of our trauma-informed support.
