Hestia nominated in Anti-Slavery Awards 2017

Hestia are incredibly proud that Sadia has been recognised in this years awards ceremony.

Sadia first started working at Hestia in 2011 where she established the first safe house for victims to recover from their trauma. Since then, Hestia’s Anti-Human trafficking Project now has 50 advocates working across 5 safe houses in London and Kent as well as providing outreach support in 32 London boroughs.

“Being nominated is an absolute honour,” Sadia says, “I have been working with adults and children in times of crisis for most of my life and this is something I will cherish forever.

Our clients are promised dreams when they come over to the UK and these dreams are turned in to nightmares. Hestia empowers their clients to turn those nightmares back in to dreams and changes their lives for the better.”

Sadia concludes, “This award isn’t just for me – it’s for the whole organisation,”

The awards will take place on 18th October which is especially relevant as it is Anti-Slavery Day. The day aims to raise awareness about the growing number of those who are trafficked to the UK. In 2016, the National Crime Agency reported 3,805 referrals were made to the National Referral Mechanism. This was an increase of 17% to the previous year.
