The commendation in the category of suicide prevention, was awarded to Hestia’s Cove services which are community-based mental health services for adult residents in the boroughs of Hillingdon, Brent, Harrow and Kensington, Chelsea and Westminster. Residents of those boroughs can expect to be welcomed into a safe space with a hot drink and a trained support worker who works with them to reduce immediate worries and create a safety plan. Each service’s opening hours are 2-10pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. To find out how to access the coves visit our mental health crisis services webpage. Patrick Ryan, CEO at Hestia said: “We’re delighted to be highly commended for this award alongside our partners at CNWL Foundation Trust. We’ve heard first-hand about the impact of the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis on people’s mental health, some at times feel so hopeless that they tell us they have turned to self-harm and have thoughts of suicide. Making sure that support is easily accessible is more vital than ever. Our Coves services provide people with a safe space to talk and plan about the crises that they are facing, to support them to find hope, to build their resilience and develop their coping strategies.” The awards ceremony took place at the Ramside Hall Hotel on Thursday 6 October supported by Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust. Hestia also provides immediate mental health support across eight other boroughs in London, as well as Folkestone in Kent. These services, which are open at times when other services may be closed, offer a space for adults struggling with their mental health to access support from experienced professionals.
