Emily's story

Hello, my name is Emily. I'm an advocate on the Modern Slavery Response Team at Hestia. I spent a lot of my early twenties testing out different jobs and seeing what suited me - the only thing I knew with certainty is that I wanted to have a positive net impact.

I came across Hestia when I was trying to assist a night shelter client in my previous role. It was amazing how quickly my client was absorbed into the service and how their needs were met. I saw the Modern Slavery Response Team as a beacon of light and hope in an otherwise barren and unforgiving No Recourse to Public Funds landscape. My client's caseworker seemed to have reams of information and resources tucked away in her head. Where she didn't know something, she would refer to her team who always had a solution. That was exactly the kind of team I wanted to belong to.

I applied for a job after searching for a vacancy on the Hestia site (which is really easy to do). I was surprised how much of the work was relevant to my career experiences but also my academic studies as well. It felt like the perfect fit.

The team here is so passionate and driven to effect real change. They work tirelessly on behalf of some of the most vulnerable people in the country. No one day has been the same as another. And you get to see real transformations up close. I only wish I had found this role sooner.
