BLF members test and review the Bright Sky app

Bright Sky is a free to download mobile app, launched in partnership with the Vodafone Foundation, providing support and information to anyone who may be in an abusive relationship or those concerned about someone they know.

The Hestia Digital Innovation team wanted to see how people navigate around the app and identify where there were any issues or areas for improvement.

BLF members Ranie* and Jasmine* did a review with Eve from the Digital Innovation team, as they have lived experience of domestic abuse.

  • Testing was done by an online platform called Lookback. This allowed the team to see Jasmine* and Ranie's* screen and note how long they took to complete certain tasks, see how they approached finding a piece of information etc, while they ‘thought aloud’ about what they were seeing.

  • On the whole the response to the app were very positive

Ranie* said:

"I did a testing session, it was online meeting, we went through all the details and sections in the application, we discussed all the positive points where I found it professional, useful, helpful and clear. I was surprised because all the information, organization, locations or websites I need I can find it in it.

The thing I liked about this application is it helps the victim or your friend or one of your family so anyone can use it where you can go through some questions to see if you are a victim of abuse.

I want to thank Eve for a lovely meeting and I am glad to know this kind of app because man, woman or teenagers can use it."

Eve, Hestia's Digital innovation Lead, said:

“The testing, with the survey and other input, has allowed us to develop a backlog of ideas and areas for exploration or improvement. As we go forward with these, we would love to continue working with BLF members and other members of our community. We will now develop case studies with Ali and Rana on their experiences in relation to the app”
