Approved Premises were previously known as Bail and Probation Hostels. Hestia is one of the few voluntary organisations (in fact the first) to run these premises which operate to the same standards as the National Probation Directorate now National Offender Management Schemes (NOMS).
The premises accommodate a range of offenders on bail or on licence in the community. Those on bail are awaiting their court hearing and those on licence are subject to compliance with agreed conditions and restrictions imposed following release into the community at the end of their term in custody. Residents follow a structured regime, which includes an overnight curfew which is part of the public protection process.
There is 24 hour supervision by trained staff. They enable successful resettlement of offenders back into the community, while contributing to the reduction of re-offending.
Hestia run two Approved Premises, one is in Lambeth and the other in Wandsworth. Referrals are made from the Court or Probation.
“As I await the hearing of my case and serve my drug testing and treatment order, I receive kindness and support of the (Hestia) staff here and those at Smart Mainliners. I have got good court reviews every month. I'm slowly and steadily rebuilding my life with their help and I am thankful and appreciative because of this. The best thing is I am clean (of drug abuse) for a few months and coping well with other difficulties. Thank you.”
