W.I.N London Launches Debut Fashion Collection To Raise Vital Funds For Victims Of Domestic Violence

London, UK. June 9, 2017– London based non-profit organisation W.I.N (Women In Need) London has launched their first collection of fashion sweatshirts, t-shirts and bags in a bid to raise vital funds for women and children fleeing domestic violence in the capital.

1 in 4 women in England and Wales will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes and 8% will suffer domestic violence in any given year*.  All profits from the sale of these exclusively branded products (a minimum of £5 each) will go directly towards supporting victims of domestic abuse living in Hestia funded refuges and safe houses across London.

W.I.N London is a new organisation co-founded by Christina Harvey and Georgina Chambury Burke in April 2017.  After seeing an ad for a second-hand buggy in 2015, Christina decided to set up a Facebook group to help locate pre-loved items for women and children living in a local Hestia refuge in East London.  However, despite the endless generosity of nearby residents, it soon became clear that funds were urgently needed to pay for more personal items such as underwear, toiletries and sanitary products, which cannot be sourced second-hand.

Christina Harvey, who spent time in a refuge as a child when her mother became a victim of domestic violence, says:

“By spending time at the refuge I’ve seen myself what an enormous difference seemingly everyday items can make to women and children fleeing domestic violence. 

These women often arrive with nothing and we hope, through the sale of the W.I.N products and the continued support of the local community who never fail to provide quality second-hand items, we will now be in a position to provide those arriving at the refuge with everything they need within 72 hours.”

Co-Founder Georgina Chambury Burke continues,

“Women arrive in their darkest of days alone and frequently unprepared and without access to funds. We hope that through this initiative they realise they aren’t alone. Everyone (up and down the country even internationally) who buys a Women In Need product is rooting for them to win.”

The campaign, featuring stylish images of the sweatshirts at iconic London locations, has already garnered growing support from women across the capital who have raised awareness and shown solidarity by sharing images of themselves in their W.I.N products across social media – including prolific fashion blogger and Instagram success Natalie Lee from Style Me Sunday.

The sweatshirts, t-shirts and bags are fair trade, made from organic cotton and feature the exclusive gold W.I.N logo.  The sweatshirts cost £40 and are available in black and marl grey.  The t-shirts cost £20 and are available in navy, grey, black and white.  The bags cost £15 and are available as a beach bag or shopping tote, in either grey or natural.  All items can be bought via the W.I.N London website – www.womeninlondon.com
