St Stephen’s Road
For vulnerable young people with complex needs provision.
The St Stephens Road project provides 10 places (8 generous rooms with shared facilities, bathrooms & 2 self-contained flats). It has a communal lounge, a laundry room, a communal kitchen, an I.T. suite and a spacious garden.
Here we provide accommodation to young people who are at a high risk of becoming homeless. Staff are highly motivated and committed to delivering high standards of support, equipped with the skills and knowledge to develop healthy working relationships – We empower young people to have a greater voice, control in their lives and choice of service that they receive through advice, information and support as they require. By following this process we enable support and stability, within a safe environment to make positive changes in their lives.
The ultimate aim is to enable them to have a planned “Move On” to their own home after a minimum period of 6 months – 2 years, living independently; and managing their own tenancy once they have reached the age of 18.
Close relationships are maintained with groups and external agencies such as; Connexions (the Government’s support service for young people), the Youth Offending Service, the Police, Social Services, the Local Education Authority and the Civic Centre.
Key-workers meet fortnightly with their clients to monitor their progress and review their support needs during:
- Key work sessions
- Flat inspections, assistance with applying for benefits (e.g. Income support/job seekers allowance/Housing Benefit)
- 3 way meetings
- General contact
Specially trained Support Workers can offer support in areas such as sexual health, anger management and substance misuse issues (alcohol, drugs). They are able to refer clients for counselling, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services CAHMS, “Visions” and external advocate agencies.
